eCommera builds Asda's non food site in five months

10th October 2008

eCommera has launched a new online and order management solution for Asda Direct, Asda's non food website. Phase One of the new site has gone live just five months after eCommera won the commission and runs across eight categories, including the online debut of George, the supermarket's popular clothing line. It precedes the launch of Asda's new catalogue, which will be distributed in store later this month.

eCommera won the account in a competitive pitch with its on-demand, enterprise-class platform that promised speed from commission to launch without the high costs associated with bespoke software. The platform is fully scalable, offers full functionality and allows Asda to retain easy control of the site and its content.

Andrew McGregor, chief executive of eCommera, says: "The speed at which we have developed this complex and sophisticated site and helped set up all the associated and background processes speaks volumes about how far ecommerce has come. Asda was clear about its objectives and we were able to use our experience, insight and platform to deliver what they wanted when they wanted without charging the earth and without the need for a big in-house IT support team."

The launch of Asda Direct is just the beginning of the relationship. eCommera will continue to support the site, delivering regular software upgrades as well as compiling crucial data reports and analysis to monitor its performance all as part of the contract.

Tony Prescott, multi channel trading director of Asda, says: "Our customers demand and deserve an easy time when they use our website. This means our web store must operate seamlessly across a number of discrete categories and the back office processes such as the order management system must be able to co-ordinate with a lot of different partners. eCommera understood immediately and has delivered a site and support structure that meets our needs today and we believe is future-proofed for our needs tomorrow."
